Jim White

Executive Director at SEG

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is committed to advancing geophysics for the benefit of society. As geophysicists, we do more than interpret data - we uncover critical insights that shape the world’s energy, resource, and environmental decisions. However, powerful science needs powerful communication to create impact, engage stakeholders, and build trust.

Through SEG’s sponsorship, all members now have free access to Practical Geocommunication and Mining Communication - two globally recognized training programs designed to help geoscientists communicate with clarity, confidence, and influence. Whether you’re engaging the public, investors, or policymakers, these skills will enhance your ability to convey complex ideas, strengthen industry relationships, and elevate the role of geophysics in society.

We encourage all SEG members to take advantage of this opportunity.

Enroll today and become a more effective voice for geophysics.

FAQs

Some questions we get asked a lot.

  • What is the teaching method?

Each lesson begins with a big question to get your neurons firing. Then comes the lesson itself. The lesson always includes at least one practical activity in the middle or near the end. There are often assignments (not compulsory) and quizzes to test for understanding of essential elements.

  • How long will it take me to do the course?

    Practical Geocommunication
You can work through the course at your own pace. However, if you wished to work on the course intensely, completing the work as required, you could probably finish in around 9 hours.

    Mining Communication
As with Practical Geocommunication, you can stretch yourself as much as you like. However, this course will likely take a little longer to complete and count as 10 hours of CPD.

  • Is there a certificate available at the end?

Yes. For both courses, upon completion (the main video lessons are compulsory elements), you will be provided with a personalised certificate with the logos of all the endorsing organizations.
